Gas Supply in Christchurch

The Christchurch Gas Company commenced its operations in Rotten Row in 1853. It also oversaw the installtion of the town's first gas street lighting to Waterloo Bridge and the High Street.
It later became part of the Bournemouth Gas & Water Co. Ltd.
The gas supply industry in Britain was nationalised in 1949.
