History

William the Conqueror's Domesday Book of 1086 records that a clericus at South Cadbury held half a hide of geldable land. Together with non-taxable land, this indicates an important church at South Cadbury.

The Manor
was free from early times and in the same ownership as that of North Cadbury.

The Old Rectory
dating from the 18th century and is now called South Cadbury House. Its stands almost opposite the parish church.

Castle Farm House
opposite the lane which leads up to Cadbury Castle was built in 1687 and possesses four mullioned windows.

The village custom of Playing Fives against the wall of the parish church was stopped in 1771.
