The tessellated pavement of a Roman villa was found here.

Parish Church

The parish church is over five hundred years old.

A consecration cross stands in the porch. One of the windows in the sanctuary has fragments of old stained glass from the 14th century including animals and birds. The tracery of the same window has its original glass with lettering and a comic squinting face (typical of many medieval churches).

The vestry contains an 18th century picture of David playing the harp - this was a popular subject for hanging in musicians' galleries at the time.

The font and the stone screen under the chancel arch are over five hundred years old and the latter is comparatively rare as there are less than a hundred such to be found in English parish churches.

An inscription in the form of a small brass in the chancel commemorates Robert Ringe (d.1622), rector here for sixty-three years.

One of the tombs in the churchyard has a hollow in the top like a small basin. Tithe money used to be paid out here on St Thomas's Day and there are records that a squire and the rector resorted to law over the alms - the rector lost.
