King of England from 1483 until 1485, the youngest brother of Edward IV and Regent after the king's death during the minority Edward V and the young Duke of York. He is famous for his alleged murder of the princes in the Tower of London.

Richard married Anne, the daughter of the powerful earl of Warwick, surnamed "the Kingmaker".

Richard accepted the Crown from parliament in the same year as the alleged murder and was consolidating his power when he was defeated and killed at the battle of Bosworth by the Lancastrian Henry Tudor, earl of Richmond, who succeeded to the throne as King Henry VII in 1485.

Murder of the Princes

Richard III is traditionally accused of the murder of the infant Edward V and Duke of York at the Tower of London. The princes were undoubtedly murdered and, their bones discovered, they were reinterred as theirs in Westminster Abbey in 1674. The casket containing their remains was opened and the contents examined for the Society of Antiquaries in 1933.
